Tear Trough Filler
The tear trough is the area which is located between your cheek and lower eyelid. As we age, we lose volume in this area sometimes causing under-eye dark circles to appear. An effective tear trough treatment using dermal filler in this area can restore the lost volume and reduce the presence of dark circles.
There is much reason for tear trough imperfections such as genetics, lack of sleep, poor lifestyle selections and finally ageing. This all contributes to sagging skin, lost elasticity which can be caused by the loss of facial fat in the under-eye and cheek area. It can also be a reason for loosening ligaments. Naturally, some people are simply born with a shallow bone structure and lack of fat in this area. If someone has thin skin, in that case, their body may tend to show the effects of ageing sooner than the rest of the face.
What Are Tear Trough Fillers?
Tear troughs are the grooves and they create a hollowness at the junction between the lower eyelid and the cheek. Tear troughs are usually genetic rather than a result of aging and often arise in the early twenties. Pseudo-tear troughs appear similar in appearance but the difference is that the skin is not tethered. Often pseudo-tear troughs are emergence with loss of mid-cheek volume and therefore support for the eye area.
Tear troughs can occur as a result of lifestyle selection such as smoking, not drinking enough water and not enough sleep. That type of lifestyle can cause laxity in the skin and premature ageing. The skin around the eye area is incredibly delicate and vulnerable to sun damage. For this reason, you have to protect the eyes with dark glasses in the sun. They can form in both men and women.
Eye Bags
Another common concern of many people is eye bags. They appear as bulges of the lower eyelid and can be fat or fluid filled. Previously thought eye bags are a result of laxity of the lower eyelid muscles that allow fat to protrude. Commonly, occur due to fat in the mid-cheek falling away from the lower eyelid.
What Are Fillers?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body, in the process of the tear trough treatment we use it as a dermal filler. These types of fillers are biodegradable, so they will gradually be absorbed as the gel breaks down and water takes its place. After being totally absorbed, the filler gel disappears unnoticed from the body.

Tear Trough Fillers Lasting Period
Tear trough fillers longevity depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, lifestyle, and muscle activity. Normally most clients retain their results for 6-18 months, precisely how long a tear trough treatment holds its effect is very individual. But in many cases, it can be even longer. Because once the client has had a few top ups, the results can be very long lasting indeed.
Do Tear Trough Fillers Hurt?
We apply topical anaesthesia for 15 minutes before your treatment, so injections are virtually painless. Also, the fillers themselves contain an anaesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable.
When Will I See Results?
The treatment usually takes less than 15 minutes and you can see an initial result immediately after injections. We recommend waiting a week to see the final result of the treatment. If you have a pigment problem with your under-eyes you will need a bespoke skincare regime to reduce this pigmentation too. In this case, it will take several weeks to improve the pigment issue.
Side Effects And Downtime?
This area is very sensitive so the majority of complaints include:
Bruising
This is always a possibility with any cosmetic injectable. Bruising is just a bruise and will settle soon, in no way affecting the end result.
Swelling
This is also common due to the sensitivity of this area. It will normally settle within the first 48 hours but it does take up to 4 weeks for tissues to properly absorb and for the final result to be evident.
Asymmetry
Everybody is asymmetrical and have more or less volume loss on one side of the face. This is especially true for the tear trough area so you feel this happens to you. Small amounts of asymmetry at the second treatment will be further corrected. Do not panic if you have this kind of syndrome after the treatment, it is natural and very much curable.
